Wisdom From An Atheist

World (June 20, 2009) quoted London journalist Matthew Parris, who wrote in The Times:

“As an atheist, I truly believe Africa needs God. Missionaries, not aid money, are the solution to Africa’s biggest problem—the crushing passivity of the people’s mind set. …

In Africa Christianity changes people’s hearts. It brings spiritual transformation. The rebirth is real. The change is good …

A Final Charge

Paul exhorted Timothy with these words: “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:1-2).

Each year at the end of Polishing the Pulpit, a seasoned preacher gives a final charge to the preachers.… Continue Reading

Have You Obeyed the Gospel?

When I talk with religious friends about becoming a Christian, I hear people say things like “I accepted Christ,” or “I joined the church,” or “l was saved.” I seldom hear people talk about obeying the gospel, however. That is unfortunate, because Paul tells us, “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).… Continue Reading

“ONE SIZE FITS ALL”

The multitude at Pentecost cried out, “Men and brethren, what shall we we do?“ Peter responded, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:37-38).

Some  clothing is “one size fits all.” If we are extra large or extra small, we may question if this is true.… Continue Reading

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “OBEY THE GOSPEL”?

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the “good news” that mankind needs. It is a message that must be received and obeyed. Paul warned that the Loving Savior will return “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 1:8). The Lord will take vengeance on those who “obey not the gospel,” and He will reward those who do obey the gospel.… Continue Reading

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST?

The theme of all the New Testament is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Practically every page provides information on this important topic. In its simplest terms, the gospel of Jesus Christ is simply the “good news” concerning Him. The Greek word translated as gospel means “good news.” The word “evangelist,” a “preacher of the gospel,” comes from the same root word.… Continue Reading

LOST NO MORE

Lost finally solved its problem.  No more stolen signs. No more lost deliveries. No more confusion. Or at least we would hope so.

On average, Lost lost a road sign every year, and it had a perennial problem of lost deliveries. People loved to come to Lost to have their pictures taken, standing there with a bewildered expression, with a Lost  road sign in the background.… Continue Reading
